Filling the walls

I didn't spring for the time travel posters; not for the time being, at least. No, after over a year of being on the mailing list and always working late on Tuesday nights when new works go on sale or dithering and then being boxed out, I snapped up this print from Tiny Showcase. It's sold out (suckaz) but the some other pieces by artist Pippin Frisbie-Calder are on her (I checked) Flickr stream. My next goal is to get something from 20X200, maybe this one.

To Infinity and Beyond!

I thought I'd be thrilled to fill up my first solo apartment. I leafed through furniture catalogs while watching TV when I was in still in grade school. Thing is, it's exciting picking out furniture in theory (maybe in the same way 900 page history books are exciting), but forking over the cash for it has been less so. But my walls are very sad and beige and calling for help. These posters are sold by 826LA, the tutoring and writing center in Los Angeles, which for complicated urban planning reasons related to its older sibling 826 Valencia's home in Oakland also sells time travel paraphenalia; and even without the feel-good source they beat a Toulouse-Lautrec print any day.

It's slow going for the first minute especially if you don't speak French, but after that, "Orgesticulanismus", a short animated film by Mathieu Labaye, is pretty riveting. Embedding was disabled by YouTube but you can watch here.

Snow Art

There isn't any snow in D.C. on which to replicate these sculptures that appeared on car windows in Seattle. I'd be perfectly happy if we don't get any all year; but these images, both eery and whimsical, are almost cool enough to change my mind.
