Looking Sharp!
Via The Moment, Advanced Style is similar to the Sartorialist or Face Hunter but everyone pictured is a senior citizen. I thought it was sort of gimmicky until I actually saw the pictures- these people look fabulous. And there's a little more variety to their outfits than the man in a suit with the cuffs rolled up/fashion editor in four inch heels at Sartorialist, although there's still a healthy dose of pocket squares.

We're a couple of swells
It's holiday catalog season, bringing lots of flowery copy trying to lend a little extra intrigue to clothing and housewares (number one culprit: J. Peterman). I think this establishment manages more successfully than most.
"The moment when a man truly feels a Man, in the most James Bondian sense of the word, is while he is tying his bow tie in front of the mirror, a bottle of vintage champagne cooling on the dressing table, and he catches a fleeting glimpse of a lady in French underwear skipping into the bathroom. If he has merely caught the reflection of the television set, which is showing another rerun ofBasic Instinct - he is still that Man if he is tying his bow tie himself and not using a ready-tied one."

Get the ball, throw the ball
Part of me wishes Isaac Mizrahi would abandon fashion, or at least scale back a little, so he'll go back to hosting my favorite talk show ever.

Creepy/Amazing
French Vogue has a spread in which an 18 year old model was made up to look 10, 20, 30...et cetera all the way through 60 using only makeup, wardrobe, and lighting. It doesn't hurt if you're starting out with razor sharp cheekbones, but the series makes a statement about aging gracefully that you wouldn't expect from Vogue.

WaPo's Robin Givhan reports from Milan, proves why she won Pulitzer with one sentence
"This scene came to mind halfway through the Roberto Cavalli show Wednesday afternoon, during which he sent out a mad mix of French maids and courtesans, Halston-inspired disco girls, techno chicks and at least one model in a green sequined mini-dress who seemed to have wandered in from Planet Crazy. My, my, how good those exit doors began to look."

Street Carnage Olympic Roundup
I was really floored by the opening ceremony for the Olympics- the parts that I was awake for, at least. I have mild self-diagnosed narcolepsy so it's not the Olympic Committee's fault that I conked out as soon as the tai qi number started, managed to come to just as the torch was being lit, and fell asleep again. I caught about 45 minutes of team entrances, but missed all 38 countries I'm actually from. Group sports don't really interest me and individual sports make me extremely nervous that an athlete is going to hit her head on the diving board/fall mid back-flip kersplat on the balance beam/drop a giant dumbell on her foot, so the teams' entrance outfits will probably be the only things about them that I can comment on with any authority. Street Carnage handily sorts them by theme, such as "Coke Barons," "Airline Attendants," and of course, "Worst Outfit in the World".
