First news item I've seen in weeks that made me teary with an emotion other than rage.

One does want a hint of color
It goes along with a very depressing story but I thought this photo was interesting, it looks almost like it was taken in black and white and then a few spots were colorized.

My Parents Were Awesome
There's no lack of platforms from which to dispense the idea that Baby Boomers were hipper and more passionate than we are or ever will be; and that nothing truly great had been created in pop culture before their coming of age or will ever be created again now that they've been weighed down with mortgages and children. Sometimes those very children don't seem to have much interest in proving them wrong. Case in point: My Parents Were Awesome, featuring pictures of young people in bell bottoms and long vests who are now old people. A few pictures date back to the pre-LBJ era but not enough for a full My Grandparents Were Awesome site, which I think is a shame. I'd start it myself if I could track down the lost picture of my paternal grandmother, already well into her fifties in said picture wearing cat-eye glasses and a violently patterned dress, dancing with a man who was not my grandfather and who appeared to be feeling her up.

More camels

This time in India, and less likely to be dinner. The captions mention a mustache contest but sadly there don't seem to be any pictures from that event.

Hey there
I'm sure she's meant to look seductive, but to me she looks like she's thinking "how did I get here?".

Who wears short shorts?
I think it's the hand in the pocket that really ties together this jaunty ensemble:

Poor woman
I don't presume to know what is going through the First Lady's head; but as a fellow tall woman I can say in her shoes I'd be thinking "ohhhhh I could snap you like a twig!"

Minus the dummy, of course
Knowing him only from "Pleasantville" and the like I didn't see this coming...Don Knotts looks kind of hot.

Get back in your bottle!
I'm not sure why she's in this Barbara Eden getup, I don't particularly want to know why, I just know it's a shame.

I try to resist...
...posting every picture I see of an Obama doing something cute but this one overpowered me.

Days passing
You can take a little mini Italian vacation on this photo website by picking one of five fairly ordinary locations and dragging a triangle around a circle to advance the photos taken at the same spot throughout a day. With the exception of the Venetian canal the locations aren't particularly exotic, but there's something very soothing on a Monday morning about making a day pass with a click of your mouse.

Creepy/Amazing
French Vogue has a spread in which an 18 year old model was made up to look 10, 20, 30...et cetera all the way through 60 using only makeup, wardrobe, and lighting. It doesn't hurt if you're starting out with razor sharp cheekbones, but the series makes a statement about aging gracefully that you wouldn't expect from Vogue.

Peter Lugar Steak House Vault
The New York Times periodically posts 360° photos of rooms around the city. This week's entry probably isn't the prettiest, or sweetest-smelling, or most comfortable room they've featured, but it's full of the promise of wonderful things to come.

Ringading
Looking at this picture partially assuaged my intense impatience for Season 2 of Mad Men to come out on DVD. It's hard to believe this is a snapshot- there's something very deliberate about everyone's pose. Those men are no Don Drapers and the high ceilings would be unfeasible in the show's New York setting, but at least someone is smoking.
