Shredding scissors

Alain de Botton said of a gift he received "Someone gave me a very good stapler. When I got it, I thought, How boring. But it is very handy, and I always think fondly of the person who gave it to me. You can never go wrong by giving someone a pair of scissors or a stapler." These shredding scissors from the MoMA store (they may be available from the Container Store too) are certainly handy, and if you got them as a gift you'd have the pleasant thoughts of the person who gave them to you while doing a slightly unpleasant task.
